Durango: Your Family Adventure Destination

IMG_0681

Looking for an exciting family vacation? Consider Colorado. Home to exhilarating whitewater rapids and mountain trails, southwestern Colorado offers adventure and exploration for all ages.

The idyllic town of Durango offers a challenging whitewater park, easy access to Jeep and hiking trails, and a historic downtown with culinary hotspots and fun shopping. The Animas River flows near the downtown and features Class III rapids, making it a favorite spot for rafting.

Though Class III rapids can be challenging, especially during higher water levels, whitewater rafting in Durango is something that families can enjoy together. Your Durango Rivertrippers guide will select a course best suited for your family. The Animas rafting trips offer Class I and II rapids adventures perfect for beginners and families with younger children. Teens and adults will get their adrenaline jumping with the Class III whitewater rapids.  If you’re looking for more of a personal challenge, consider trying out an inflatable kayak.

If dry land is more your speed, take your family on an off-road Jeep tour. These 4×4 trips are suitable for ages 4 and above, making them a great – and unique –  family fun option. Our experienced guides will take your family through the canyon and into the La Plata Mountains for spectacular views. Durango Rivertrippers also offers a Silverton Ghost Town Tour through the mountains around Silverton and into the infamous ghost town of Animas Forks. If you want to go it alone, rent one of our Jeeps. We’ll make sure you’re equipped with a map and all the knowledge you need for an exhilarating but safe outing.

Jeeps aren’t the only way to explore the mountain trails. Rent a Polaris RZR at our Silverton location and head out into the heart of trail country. Cruise through mountain passes, explore ghost towns, and take in the 10,000-foot views. RZRs seat up to 4, so you can explore with your family alongside. Children ages 4 to 8 can ride along but must ride in a child restraint per the law. We provide helmets, trail maps, and customized itineraries. Colorado provides the amazing views and lasting memories.
